Adeola Omotoso, the daughter of veteran Nollywood actress Jumoke George who was recently found after being declared missing for four years, has come forward with a harrowing account of her disappearance, revealing she was sold into prostitution in Mali.
The 41-year-old opened up in a candid interview on Talk to B podcast hosted by actress Biola Bayo, where she shared details of her traumatic experience. Adeola revealed she was lured with false promises of a better life abroad and ended up trafficked into sex slavery.
“I met someone that introduced traveling to Mali to me. She deceived me with a pharmacy in Mali,” Adeola recounted. “I agreed without informing anyone. We travelled by road through Cotonou, Togo, Ghana and other countries for four days.”
Her journey took a sinister turn upon arrival in Bamako, the capital of Mali. “I called the contact I was given when I got to Bamako in Mali. It was when I got to her house that she told me that she has bought me for N250,000 from my sister, and I will work to pay her 1.5 million CFA. She said I was there for prostitution,” she added.
According to Adeola, she was held in captivity and forced to work in a brothel. Her eventual rescue came after she managed to escape the establishment, securing a job with a food vendor which helped her stay afloat until help arrived.
Her emotional account comes days after the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) facilitated her rescue and return to Nigeria. The revelation has sparked conversations about human trafficking and the urgent need to protect vulnerable individuals seeking better opportunities abroad.
Jumoke George had earlier raised an alarm over her daughter’s disappearance, saying she hadn’t heard from Adeola in four years. Now reunited, the mother and daughter face a long road to healing as they process the trauma and rebuild their lives.
