Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has revealed what the team needs to do to overturn the 3-0 deficit against Arsenal to book a place in the Champions League semi-finals.
The defending champions will be hoping to turn around the tie after suffering a heavy defeat at the Emirates Stadium last week.
Real Madrid are known to be the king of comebacks in Europe especially when playing at the Santiago Bernabeu.
They have been able to turn around Champions League matches in the past after losing the first leg away from home with the likes of Paris St Germain, Manchester City and VfL Wolfsburg at the receiving end of such stunning comebacks.
Ancelotti has urged the players to count on the magic at the Santiago Bernabeu to record another comeback victory to advance.
He said: “The Bernabeu has magic, everyone knows it’s a special atmosphere. We need a bit of everything, quality and a complete game in terms of physicality and collective attitude. Not one of these things can go wrong.
“Madrid have the resources to turn this tie around. We have the quality, the commitment, the experience, the fans. The resources are there and now it’s time to make the best of it.
“(Games at the Bernabeu) are very important because the boost from the fans has helped us a lot. Tomorrow it will be the same, we need to play at our maximum level to try to change the tie. It’s very complicated at the moment, but tomorrow we’ll try to change that.”
Real Madrid have failed to win against Arsenal in the Champions League in their last three meetings, Ancelotti hailed the Gunners for their style of play.
He said: “I would say they are a very well organised team.
“They are not the most experienced, but they have a very clear idea both defensively and offensively. They are very focused on what they have to do. And they are more focused on that than in the atmosphere.”
Real Madrid have lost by three or more goals in the first leg of a European knockout tie on five previous occasions.
The only time they came from behind to progress was in the 1975-76 European Cup, when they recovered from a 4-1 defeat by Derby County in the last 16 to win 5-1 at home and go through 6-5 on aggregate.
But they have never recovered from a 3-0 deficit in the Champions League era.
However, Jude Bellingham believes they can pull off a comeback to stun Arsenal at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.
He said: “I’ve heard it a million times since last week, I’ve seen a million videos – it’s really motivating stuff.
“It’s a night that’s made for Real Madrid. A night that would go down in history but also something that people are familiar with around this part of this world. Hopefully we can add another special night.”
Real Madrid have progressed from 14 of their last 15 Champions League knockout ties when playing the second leg at home.
Ancelotti revealed that scoring early will boost their chances of turning the tie around.
He said: “I don’t think it’s definitive. Of course, scoring early is important for the match. But the most important thing is to have a good control of the match and try to do our best from the beginning. When you have good control of the match, you can score at any time.”
