Just hours after President Joe Biden’s comments calling Trump supporters “garbage,” former President Donald Trump made a bold statement by riding through town in a garbage truck.

“How do you like my garbage truck? This truck is in honor of Kamala and Joe Biden,” Trump said to a cheering crowd.

President Joe Biden came under scrutiny on Tuesday after he appeared to refer to Donald Trump’s supporters as “garbage” during a video call with VotoLatino.

The controversy arose after Biden responded to remarks made by a speaker at Trump’s Sunday rally in New York, who referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage.” Biden’s response came as he discussed Trump’s recent rhetoric toward Latino communities.

“The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters,” Biden stated in reference to Trump’s backers. “His, his, his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable and it’s un-American,” Biden added.

The comment quickly drew a sharp reaction across political lines, with critics accusing Biden of alienating American voters.

In an effort to clarify the statement, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates issued a response, asserting that Biden’s remark was aimed at the “hateful rhetoric” of the rally rather than Trump supporters directly.

“The President referred to the hateful rhetoric at the Madison Square Garden rally as ‘garbage,'” Bates explained.
