Nollywood actor Stanley Ontop has shed light on the mystery surrounding the sudden disappearance of fellow actor Alexx Ekubo, who has been noticeably absent from social media and public engagements for months.
Concerns about Ekubo’s well-being grew after rumours began swirling online, suggesting the actor was battling serious health issues. His prolonged silence, his last known activity on social media was a post made on December 30, 2024 only intensified fears among fans and colleagues.
However, in a recent Instagram post on Tuesday, Stanley Ontop dispelled the worrying rumours, assuring fans that Ekubo is healthy and doing well. He labelled the speculations as “false” and emphasized that the actor simply chose to step away from the limelight for personal reasons.
Stanley explained that the break was necessary for Ekubo’s mental health, noting the overwhelming nature of the online environment. “The media was too toxic on him,” he said, pointing out the impact of social media pressure and public scrutiny.
“If you all remember in February I posted his picture and was asking about him. @alexxekubo is very fine and he’s doing great. He just took time from social media and work. The media was too toxic on him so he decided to give you guys some space. Alex is good 100. Alex is coming back to this media strong and happy. Alex is not sick as being circulated by some mischievous elements. Alex we await your return. Depression is real.”
Ekubo’s disappearance may be linked to the lingering effects of his controversial breakup with his ex-fiancée, Fancy Acholonu, and the viral gay allegations that surfaced during that period. Their public fallout, which began with a broken engagement, was followed by explosive interviews and social media exchanges.
In one of the shocking claims, Fancy alleged that throughout their five-year relationship, Alexx refused to be intimate with her, fueling public speculation and leading her to say:
“It’s difficult for me to confirm or deny if Alexx is truly gay because of his refusal to sleep with me during our five-year relationship.”
The scandal placed Ekubo at the centre of intense media attention, which Stanley now suggests contributed to the actor’s decision to step away from both social media and acting temporarily.
As fans and industry colleagues await his return, Stanley’s update has brought a sigh of relief while also underscoring a growing conversation around mental health and media pressure in the entertainment industry.
