Houston Texas– A fire that occurred in a southwest Houston apartment at the crack of dawn on Sunday morning has claimed three young lives and put the brother in the hospital as reported by the Houston Fire Department.

The victims, identified as Anita, 8, Yulisa, 11, and Evelen, 15, perished in the blaze.

Their mother, Meybis Evelen Zelaya, had left for work around 4 a.m., just before the fire broke out approximately an hour and a half later.

Even though firefighters reached within four minutes, the fire was confined only to a single unit, but this was already too late to save the girls.

The fire also badly burned Zelaya’s 21-year-old son, Oscar, who was treated for his injuries at the hospital. Houston’s newly-appointed fire chief Thomas Muñoz and other officials have suggested that the probe into the cause of the fire is yet to commence.

During the ABC13 interview, Zelaya could not hold back the emotions and said: “This is the worst thing that has ever happened in my life losing three of my daughters,” She further described her kids as beautiful smart, and loving but the worst thing was they were gone.

Zelaya admitted that she has been receiving support from friends and families, which kept her moving to face this inconceivable misfortune. The fundraising for the girls’ funerals has been taken over by a local business.

The shock of the loss has left Zelaya feeling disconnected from reality, as she struggles to come to terms with the sudden and tragic loss of her daughters.
