The Lagos State Government has raised a serious alarm about the quality of borehole water in the Lekki area.
During a recent meeting addressing flooding and environmental challenges along the coastal road, Mahmood Adegbite, a government official, warned that residents digging boreholes in Lekki are likely consuming contaminated water, bluntly referred to as “shit water.”
Adegbite highlighted that heavy rainfall, unusual for the August break, has worsened flooding and contributed to wastewater management issues.
The government has invested significantly in addressing these problems, but acknowledges that more work is needed.
Poor wastewater treatment in the area is contaminating groundwater, posing health risks to residents relying on boreholes.
