The targeted convenience store sits directly across the street from the high-traffic Willis Tower tourist landmark.
Chicago police officers arrived at the scene to find heavy damage to the front of the storefront and structural components.
Investigators determined that the suspects used a black Jeep SUV to smash through the building barrier to gain entry.
Once inside, the individuals targeted the store’s automated teller machine (ATM) in an effort to remove it from the property.
The thieves ultimately abandoned the ATM inside the wrecked storefront and failed to secure any cash from the machine.
The group immediately fled the area in a separate getaway vehicle before responding officers could arrive.
Store management reported that no retail items or cash were stolen during the chaotic incident.
Area detectives continue to review surveillance footage from nearby businesses to identify the individuals involved in the crime.
