The afternoon quiet of Chicago’s West Side shattered when federal agents confronted a bank robbery suspect in a hail of gunfire.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is actively processing the scene after an agent-involved shooting turned fatal in the Homan Square neighborhood.
According to official dispatch logs, the violence erupted around 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

The shooting prompted a large Chicago police and SWAT response in the 3700-block of West Lexington Avenue in Homan Square near Garfield Park.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office officially identified the deceased man as 25-year-old Abdulhafedh Abdulhafedh.
Medical examiners confirmed that Abdulhafedh died directly at the scene of the shooting.

Sources stated that a suspect involved in the shooting was believed to be tied to a recent bank robbery.
Chicago Police Department officials confirmed that local officers had initially responded to reports of a violent crime taking place.
The FBI subsequently arrived on the block and is now leading the complete investigation.

A neighbor told reporters that dozens of shots were fired during the encounter.
One neighborhood witness detailed a fierce exchange of gunfire between the occupant of the vehicle and responding law enforcement.
“He was just sitting in the car, and they tried to get in the car, and they couldn’t get in the car,” the neighbor stated.
“He came up through the sunroof and started spraying bullets, and they sprayed back at him,” the resident added.
The FBI officially confirmed the details of the incident in a written statement released to the media.

“The FBI is reviewing an agent-involved shooting which occurred on May 28, 2026, at approximately 3:00 PM CT near Garfield Park in Chicago,” the federal agency stated.
Bureau officials emphasized that the agency takes all shooting incidents involving agents or task force members seriously.
In accordance with standard protocol, the shooting incident is under review by the FBI’s Inspection Division.
The federal agency noted that because this remains an ongoing matter, they have no further details to provide immediately.

A man who didn’t want to give his name arrived at the perimeter and stated he is the older brother of the man shot and killed by the FBI.
The sibling stated that his brother was shot and killed while sitting inside a dark-colored SUV.
“I’m heartbroken,” the older brother said to reporters.
“I mean, I don’t know how to feel. I can’t, don’t go no feelings,” the grieving brother added.
“I mean, like, police kill your brother. How would you feel?” the sibling asked.

The brother explicitly noted he had absolutely no knowledge regarding any alleged bank robbery ties.
“I don’t know nothing about if he was tied with no bank robbery,” the brother stated.
“If he was, that’s something I didn’t know about,” he added.
The shooting remains under active review by the FBI’s Inspection Division.
No further information regarding the progression of the case was immediately available.
