A 60-year-old Chicago taxi driver faces criminal charges following a violent confrontation in the north suburbs.
Abderrezak Djerrah, of North Oconto Avenue, was charged with misdemeanor reckless driving on Thursday.
The incident occurred Monday afternoon at 3100 Sanders Road in Glenview.
Police say Djerrah drove a male passenger to the location before a dispute erupted.
The two men allegedly began fighting physically inside the vehicle over the cost of the fare.
As the passenger tried to climb out of the taxi, Djerrah reportedly hit the gas.
The sudden acceleration threw the passenger from the vehicle and onto the pavement.
The victim suffered severe injuries from the fall and remains hospitalized.

However, investigators later confirmed that no firearms were involved in the struggle.
Niles and Park Ridge police spotted the suspect vehicle later that day and took Djerrah into custody.
Djerrah was processed and released with a court date set for March 26 at the Skokie Courthouse.
