A cross-state manhunt has finally ended with the capture of a man accused of destroying a Chicago family’s American Dream.
Muhammad Thomas, 35, now faces a mountain of felony charges including first-degree murder.
The U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force tracked Thomas to St. Louis, Missouri.
They arrested him on February 24, 2026, in the 200 block of South Tucker Street.
Officers extradited Thomas back to Chicago to face justice for a string of violent crimes.
The most tragic of these incidents occurred on a Saturday evening in November 2025.
It was a night that changed the Little Village community forever.
The Fatal Robbery at Joyeria Angelos
On November 8, 2025, at approximately 5:49 p.m., a man entered a local business.
That business was Joyeria Angelos, located in the 3800 block of West 26th Street.
The shop was a staple of the neighborhood, built on years of hard work.
Investigators say the suspect entered the store wearing a Chicago Blackhawks hoodie and a mask.
He initially pretended to be a customer looking at the jewelry.
Within 30 seconds, the man grabbed merchandise and bolted for the door.
Inside the store were 63-year-old Faustino Alamo Dominguez and his 25-year-old son, Luis Alamo.
The father and son refused to let their livelihood be stolen without a fight.
They chased the thief out of the store and onto the busy sidewalk of West 26th Street.
An altercation broke out in the middle of the street near oncoming traffic.
As the struggle moved toward the corner of Springfield Avenue, the suspect pulled a handgun.
He opened fire, striking both the father and the son multiple times.
The shooter then hopped into a white SUV and sped away heading south.
Both victims were rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
Tragically, neither Faustino nor Luis survived their injuries.
A Pattern of Violence
As investigators dug deeper, they realized the suspect had a long history of violence in Chicago.
Thomas is not just charged with the double murder of the Alamo family.
He is also accused of a shooting that took place on July 28, 2023.
In that case, a 26-year-old man was seriously wounded in the 1700 block of West Maypole Avenue.
The violence continued into the following year.
On July 16, 2024, Thomas allegedly committed an armed robbery in the 2300 block of West Cermak Road.
By the time the Little Village murders occurred, Thomas was a dangerous fugitive.
His latest charge list includes aggravated battery of a peace officer and attempted carjacking.
He is currently being held for a detention hearing at 2600 South California.
The “Heart” of Little Village
The 3800 block of West 26th Street is the economic engine of the Little Village neighborhood.
It is often called the “Mexican Capital of the Midwest.”
For many business owners, Joyeria Angelos represented the ultimate success story.
The Alamo family moved from Mexico and worked for years to open their own shop.
Community leaders say the loss of Faustino and Luis has left a void in the 10th District.
“All hell broke loose in our neighborhood,” 22nd Ward Alderman Michael Rodriguez said following the shooting.
Local business owners have since called for increased security along the corridor.
Many residents remember the night of the shooting as one of chaos and fear.
At the time of the murders, federal agents were also active in the area on unrelated matters.
This added to the tension as the community tried to process the double homicide.
Today, a memorial of flowers and candles still marks the spot where the father and son fought for their dream.
The arrest of Muhammad Thomas brings a grim sense of closure to a neighborhood that has spent months mourning.
