A violent robbery on the CTA Red Line has left a passenger injured and the Wrigleyville community on edge.

The Chicago Police Department issued an alert for the 19th District following the brutal morning attack.

The incident occurred on February 1st, 2026, around 11:41 a.m.

A passenger was riding a Red Line train in the 900 block of West Addison Avenue.

As the train moved through the heart of Wrigleyville, a man approached the victim.

The suspect reportedly struck the passenger in the face with a closed fist.

After the initial blow, the offender stole the victim’s personal property.

The violence did not stop with the theft.

According to police, the suspect then stomped on the victim’s head.

The passenger was eventually able to escape the train car and seek help.

Detectives are now using surveillance footage to track the individual responsible.

Recent History

This attack follows a string of concerns regarding safety on the CTA North Side routes.

Wrigleyville is typically known for its heavy foot traffic and vibrant nightlife.

However, the 19th District has seen a fluctuating rate of “theft from person” crimes over the last year.

Similar robberies have been reported at the nearby Belmont and Sheridan stations.

Local residents have expressed growing frustration with the lack of visible security during non-game days.

In previous months, transit advocates have called for increased patrols on the Red Line to deter daytime assaults.

This latest incident highlights the vulnerability of riders traveling outside of peak rush hours.

Safety Tips for CTA Riders

The Chicago Police Department is urging commuters to remain hyper-aware of their surroundings.

Always make a note of your specific location, including the train car number and direction of travel.

If you are ever confronted by an assailant, authorities advise you to remain calm.

Never attempt to pursue a criminal or fight back over physical property.

Instead, try to memorize distinct details like tattoos, logos on clothing, or specific accessories.

Use the emergency button located in every train car to alert the transit operator immediately.

Always call 911 as soon as you reach a safe location to report the crime.
