A Bellwood man faces a first-degree attempted murder charge following a shooting that left a 36-year-old woman wounded in West Humboldt Park last week.
Chicago Police arrested 42-year-old Deshawn Neal on Monday morning in the 4100 block of West 21st Street.
Authorities identified Neal as the gunman who opened fire in the 3900 block of West Iowa Street on January 21.
The shooting occurred around 11:50 a.m. when officers responded to reports of a person shot.
Upon arrival, police found a 36-year-old woman suffering from gunshot wounds to her thigh.
According to CPD, the victim was sitting in a car when a black Ford sedan pulled up alongside her.
A gunman inside the sedan fired several shots before the vehicle sped away from the scene.
Emergency responders rushed the woman to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where she was listed in fair condition.
Neal, a resident of the 400 block of Rice Avenue in Bellwood, now faces one felony count of attempted first-degree murder.
Officers took him into custody without further incident five days after the attack.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not yet disclosed a motive for the shooting.
Neal is scheduled for a detention hearing today at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California.
