A 40-year-old man faces first-degree murder charges following a deadly stabbing on a CTA train last weekend.
Chicago police arrested Demetrius Thurman on Sunday in connection with the Saturday morning attack.
The incident occurred on January 10, 2026, in the 100 block of West Lake Street.
Authorities say Thurman fatally stabbed a 37-year-old man while on a CTA train in the city’s 1st District.
Members of the Citywide Robbery Task Force located and apprehended Thurman in the 200 block of South Canal Street.
Thurman, a resident of the 7000 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, now faces one felony count of first-degree murder.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released to the public.
Thurman is scheduled for a detention hearing today, January 13, 2026.
The hearing will take place at the criminal courthouse located at 2600 South California Avenue.
Police have not released a motive for the stabbing or confirmed if the two men knew each other.
