A grieving Chicago family is searching for answers after a hit-and-run crash on the West Side claimed the life of 40-year-old Samantha Bragg.
Nearly one month after the incident, Cook County Crimestoppers has announced a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours of December 17.
Chicago police responded to the 3900 block of West 5th Avenue, near Pulaski, at approximately 1:39 a.m.
According to officials, a bystander flagged down officers after discovering Bragg lying unconscious in the middle of the street.
First responders rushed Bragg to Mt. Sinai Hospital.
While she was initially listed in critical condition, she tragically passed away from her injuries shortly after.
The victim’s daughter, Hali Stapleton, recently spoke with ABC7 to identify her mother and plead for the public’s help.
The family remains devastated by the driver’s decision to flee the scene.
Stapleton expressed the shock and confusion her family has faced since the December crash.
“It was all just a big shock, and how could somebody do that,” Stapleton said.
“We don’t even know how long she was laying in the road.”
The Chicago Police Department’s Major Accidents Unit is currently leading the investigation.
As of this week, no suspects are in custody and no vehicle description has been released.
Cook County Crimestoppers is offering a $1,000 cash reward to anyone who provides a tip that helps solve the case.
