BARRINGTON, IL — The owners of a popular northwest suburban luxury consignment shop are picking up the pieces after a brazen smash-and-grab robbery left their store nearly empty on Sunday morning.
ReStyle Designers, located on the 100 block of South Cook Street, was targeted just after 5:00 a.m.
Surveillance footage captured a group of six suspects breaking into the boutique and methodically stripping the shelves of high-end goods.
Despite alarms blaring and security lights flashing, the thieves worked with clinical speed.
In less than 60 seconds, the group shoved approximately 85% of the store’s inventory into large plastic garbage bags before fleeing the scene.
“Our hearts are broken,” the owners shared in a social media statement.
“We are devastated, but we are not giving up. This store has always been about the community.”
The boutique has been a staple in Barrington for seven years.
In the wake of the theft, local residents and long-time customers have flocked to the store to offer help with cleanup and restocking efforts.
The owners confirmed that while the financial blow is massive, they are grateful the store was empty at the time, and no one was hurt.
Investigation Ongoing
Barrington Police are currently reviewing the surveillance footage.
The suspects’ getaway vehicle or flight path remains unclear.
In response to the hit, the owners have already begun installing enhanced security measures to prevent future break-ins.
