A Missouri man will remain behind bars as he awaits trial for a violent stabbing that occurred during a Christmas Eve celebration at a Burr Ridge hotel.
Judge Anne Therieau Hayes granted the state’s motion to detain 40-year-old Uberclein Vazquez Villareal on Thursday morning.
Villareal, a resident of California, Missouri, faces several felony charges, including Armed Violence and Aggravated Battery.
Early Christmas Eve morning, around 2:25 a.m., Burr Ridge police rushed to the Extended Stay America on South Frontage Road.
When they arrived, they found a witness hiding behind the front desk.
Officers went to the third floor and found Villareal standing in the hallway outside Room 345 with his hands covered in blood.
Inside the room, they discovered a man unconscious on an inflatable bed, suffering from multiple stab wounds to his chest and torso.
What Led to the Attack?
Investigators say Villareal was sharing the room with two other men to celebrate the holiday.
According to authorities, Villareal began harassing the victim while he was sleeping.
When the third man stepped out of the room to take a phone call, Villareal allegedly attacked the victim with a 4.5-inch knife.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin called the violence “shocking.”
“The quick response of the Burr Ridge Police Department on Christmas Eve sends a strong message that law enforcement is always at the ready,” Berlin said.
Burr Ridge Police Chief Marc Loftus praised the witness who called for help and the officers who provided “lifesaving aid” to the victim.
The victim was transported to a local hospital; his current condition has not been released.

Villareal is scheduled to appear in court again on January 20, 2026.
Under the law, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
