A frightening encounter in River North ended with gunfire early Friday morning after a tow truck driver rear-ended an SUV and opened fire.
According to the Chicago Police, a 34-year-old woman was driving a gray Chevrolet SUV south in the 800-block of North La Salle Drive around 3:50 a.m.
A tow truck traveling nearby crashed into the back of her vehicle.
Following the collision, the tow truck driver fired a gunshot at the SUV, striking the front windshield.
The shooter fled the scene in the tow truck immediately after the incident.
Police have not yet determined what led to the crash or the subsequent shooting.
Fortunately, the woman was not injured.
As of Friday afternoon, no suspects are in custody.
Area Three detectives are currently investigating the case.
