A firearm cleaning turned dangerous Thursday morning in Chicago’s Albany Park neighborhood, leaving a young man hospitalized.
According to the Chicago Police, the incident occurred at approximately 11:55 a.m. inside a home on the 3700 block of West Agatite Avenue.
Authorities report that a 32-year-old man was cleaning his firearm when the weapon accidentally discharged.
A 20-year-old man standing nearby was struck in the right hand by the gunfire.
The victim was transported to Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital, where he is listed in good condition.
Police confirmed that the 32-year-old man is a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) cardholder.
As of Thursday afternoon, no one is in custody, and the shooting appears to be an accident.
Area Five detectives are currently investigating the circumstances.
