A 27-year-old Chicago woman faces felony charges after a high-speed crash in Lombard left a family of four, including two young children, with serious injuries.
According to Lombard police, the incident occurred around 12:12 p.m. Tuesday near Route 53 and the Illinois Prairie Path.
Investigators say Jaquelin Onofre Reyes was driving a Hummer SUV when she attempted to pass traffic, clipped one vehicle, and veered into oncoming lanes.
Her SUV then slammed into a northbound Infiniti carrying a family of four.
The crash caused significant injuries to all four family members.
Officials highlighted that a 10-year-old boy sustained “extensive severe injuries” and has been moved to a specialized medical facility for further surgery.
A 7-year-old child was also among the injured.
Prosecutors from the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office revealed that Onofre Reyes had a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .238, which is nearly three times the legal limit.
She has been charged with four counts of Aggravated DUI (Great Bodily Harm).
Onofre Reyes appeared in court Wednesday.
Despite the severity of the charges, she was released from custody while awaiting trial.
She is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 20.
