The Chicago Bears are officially headed to the playoffs.
The team secured their post-season berth Sunday afternoon following the Detroit Lions’ loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
This clinching moment comes on the heels of the Bears’ own miraculous 22-16 overtime victory against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday night.
Saturday’s win was nothing short of a miracle.
Trailing by a touchdown at the two-minute warning, statisticians gave the Bears just a 0.5% chance of winning.
However, under first-year head coach Ben Johnson, the Bears proved they don’t quit.
The team rallied to tie the game in regulation before rookie quarterback Caleb Williams connected with DJ Moore for a 46-yard “walk-off” touchdown in overtime.
This marked the sixth time this season Chicago has won after trailing in the final two minutes of play.
With 11 wins, the most for the franchise since 2018, the Bears are now in total control of the NFC North.
-
The Lead: Chicago holds a game-and-a-half lead over Green Bay.
-
The Path: The Bears can win the division outright by winning their final two games or by splitting them.
While the players recover, Bears fans spent a “relaxed Sunday” watching the scoreboard.
At local spots like Wings and Rings in Bridgeport, the atmosphere was electric as the Lions’ loss turned Saturday’s excitement into a guaranteed playoff ticket.
The Bears head to San Francisco to face the 49ers next Sunday night, looking to maintain their momentum and secure a home playoff game.
