Dramatic dashcam footage released by authorities shows the moment Oak Brook police officers risked their lives to save a driver from a burning vehicle early Sunday morning.
The crash occurred on I-88 after a vehicle, which police say was traveling at a high rate of speed with its lights off, lost control and rolled over.
The car quickly burst into flames, trapping the driver inside.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the car resting on its roof with fire spreading rapidly.
Because the driver was pinned, officers were forced to crawl underneath the wreckage while the car was on fire to pull the person to safety.
Despite the intensity of the flames, the outcome was fortunate:
-
The driver sustained only minor injuries.
-
Two police officers were treated for minor injuries related to the rescue.
The Oak Brook Police Department is still investigating the cause of the crash.
No further details regarding the driver’s identity or potential charges have been released at this time.
