A community is in mourning after a former sports reporter and her husband were found dead in their home Friday in what police are calling a suspected murder-suicide.
Hoover police discovered the bodies of Christina Chambers and her husband inside their residence.
While the investigation is ongoing, authorities confirmed that a 3-year-old child was found unharmed inside the home during the discovery.
Chambers was a well-known figure in Alabama media, previously working as a sports reporter for WBRC Fox 6.
Her former colleagues described her as a “valued member” of the newsroom who brought passion and professionalism to every story she covered.
“Christina was an accomplished journalist and athlete who brought energy, professionalism, and genuine care to her work,” a WBRC spokesperson said in a statement. “She was especially proud of her ties to UAB, high school sports, and her community.”
Neighbors in the Hoover area expressed shock and heartbreak over the news.
Charles Maple, who lived near the family, described Chambers as a “special” person and an exceptional mother.
“I cried because when you see somebody that is that special, I don’t know how you couldn’t,” Maple said. “She was a good neighbor and an excellent athlete, but most importantly, she was an amazing mother.”
Police have not yet released a motive for the incident. The child is currently safe and under the care of family members.
