A Northwest Side Chicago doctor is behind bars after being charged with the sexual assault of a 16-year-old boy with significant mental and physical disabilities.
Trevor J. Roston, 33, faces multiple felony charges following an incident on November 29 at an Elgin hotel.
Prosecutors say Roston followed the minor into a single-use poolside bathroom, locked the door, and committed the assault.
Vulnerable Victim and Serious Charges
The victim is a 16-year-old child with an IQ of 55, a physical disability, and a stutter.
Prosecutors highlighted that Roston is a trained pediatrician who would have been uniquely qualified to recognize the boy’s age and developmental delays.
Roston faces the following charges:
-
Aggravated criminal sexual assault
-
Criminal sexual assault
-
Unlawful restraint
-
Aggravated criminal sexual abuse
-
Sexual exploitation of a child
Investigators stated that the victim was not a patient of Roston, and the two did not know each other prior to the encounter.
Hospital Termination and Public Safety
At the time of the alleged crime, Roston was employed by Advocate Sherman Hospital.
Hospital officials confirmed he has since been fired.
While Roston is a board-certified pediatrician, he reportedly only treated adult patients at the Elgin facility.
Because the assault occurred in a public hotel, a Kane County judge ruled Roston a “threat to the public.” He was ordered to remain in jail while the case proceeds.
Advocate Sherman Hospital released a statement saying they are “deeply disturbed” by the charges and are cooperating with law enforcement.
Roston’s next court appearance is scheduled for December 29.
