A potentially tragic situation in Chicago’s South Side was averted late Friday night when a 10-year-old child was found safe after being kidnapped in a stolen vehicle.
Around 11:21 p.m. in the 7300 block of S. Lafayette Avenue, a 30-year-old man reported that he had left his white SUV running when two men suddenly jumped into the vehicle and drove away. Crucially, his 10-year-old child was sitting in the back seat at the time of the car theft.
Chicago police immediately broadcast the vehicle’s description across police scanners, initiating a rapid search. Within a short time, the vehicle and the child were located just a couple of blocks away in the 7400 block of S. Stewart Avenue.
The young child was found to be safe and without any injuries, police confirmed.
While the child is safe, the suspects remain at large. Nobody is currently in custody in connection with the kidnapping and vehicle theft. Chicago police are continuing to investigate the incident.
