Lagos State University (LASU) has addressed recent social media concerns about its 2025/2026 admission process, denying allegations of admission racketeering and clarifying its admission policy.
The university described the controversy as “a victim of our own success,” noting that it was the most-subscribed university in Nigeria in the 2025 JAMB UTME.
In a statement, the university’s management explained that its admission policy gives a special preference to Lagos State indigenes, following a guiding principle of 70% indigenes to 30% others after the initial merit list is released.
It assured all qualified and verified Lagos indigenes that more admission lists would be released.
LASU also directly addressed the serious claims of admission racketeering, refuting the possibility that slots can be bought.
The university clarified that only the Vice-Chancellor has the authority to offer admission. The public was strongly warned against falling for scams by unscrupulous individuals who promise admission in exchange for money.
Management stated it takes such allegations seriously and encouraged anyone with verifiable evidence of racketeering to report it.
The university expressed sympathy for candidates who, despite high scores, were not admitted due to limited capacity and maintained its commitment to transparency and merit.
