Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has been named African best player in the Belgian Pro League for the 2024-25 season.

Arokodare was presented with the prestigious Ebony Shoe award to reward him for his scintillating performances for RC Genk.

He has scored 20 goals in the league this season, and is the second top scorer in the division.

He led Genk to the top of the table in the regular season before they faltered in the playoffs.

Arokodare fought off competition from the likes of Noah Sidiki of Union St.Gilloise, Genk teammate Zakaria El Ouahdi, Union Saint-Gillloise star Promise David and compatriot Raphael Onyedika.

He is the 34th winner of the Ebony Shoe prize, and the sixth Nigerian to bag the award.

Other Super Eagles players who have won it include Daniel Amokachi (1992, 1994), Victor Ikpeba (1993), Godwin Okpara (1995), Celestine Babayaro (1996), and Paul Onuachu.

Arokodare was delighted to win the award while targeting many more in the future.

He said: “Yes, this is definitely my biggest prize so far. Although I hope that even bigger prizes are coming,” he was quoted by Sporza.

“I want to keep going up and that can be in any competition. If I keep working hard, I will get the chances I deserve. But I am happy that my name is in the history books.”

Arokodare made his Super Eagles debut in the 2-0 away win over Rwanda in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March.
