A 36-year-old woman was found shot to death inside her West Rogers Park home Friday morning.
Chicago police arrived at the 6900 block of North Bell Avenue just before 9:15 a.m.
The discovery occurred during a well-being check at the North Side residence.
Radio communications indicate the check was requested by the OEMC’s deputy director of 911 services.
The victim had reportedly failed to show up for work and could not be reached by phone.
Officers found the woman inside her second-floor condo unit with at least one gunshot wound to her abdomen.
Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
The victim was a Senior Administrative Assistant for the city and a former health department employee.
Cook County Crimestoppers is now offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
Area Three detectives are currently investigating the case as a homicide.
No suspects are in custody, and police have not released a description of any potential shooters.
The Cook County Medical Examiner is withholding the victim’s name until family members are notified.
Recent History
West Rogers Park is typically known as one of the quieter, residential pockets of Chicago’s North Side.
While the 6900 block of North Bell Avenue is usually peaceful, the area has seen a slight uptick in property crimes over the last year.
However, a targeted homicide inside a secured condo building is highly unusual for this specific neighborhood.
Nearby residents noted that they moved to this area specifically to avoid the city’s more frequent violent crime zones.
This incident follows a pattern of increasing concern regarding safety in North Side wards that historically report low violence rates.
Alderman Debra Silverstein of the 50th Ward noted the shooting actually occurred in the neighboring 40th Ward.
Both wards are currently working with the 24th District Police to increase patrols in the wake of the killing.
Local residents expressed fear that the killer remains at large while a motive is still unknown.
One neighbor told reporters that the lack of an arrest has put the entire block on high alert.
Police are asking anyone with doorbell camera footage from Friday morning to come forward immediately.
