Elk Grove Village police are investigating a grim discovery made early Wednesday morning.
Officers responded to a call just after 4:15 a.m. regarding a person down.
They found a woman’s body outside an extended-stay hotel near Landmeier and Higgins Road.
Paramedics confirmed the woman was dead at the scene.
The Major Case Assistance Team arrived shortly after to lead the forensic search.
Detectives spent most of the day combing through the area for clues.
Witnesses saw investigators searching through industrial dumpsters near the building.
Police were seen carrying several bags of evidence away from the hotel grounds.
Eva Wypych, a guest at a nearby hotel, stumbled upon the scene during her morning walk.
“I just freaked and I couldn’t believe it,” Wypych told ABC7 reporters.
She described the heartbreaking sight of a body covered by a blanket on the pavement.
Wypych noted that the discovery has left other hotel guests shaken and confused.
“Nobody deserved that,” she said, expressing her grief over the unknown woman’s passing.
Police have officially labeled the death as “suspicious.”
However, officials took steps to calm the local community on Wednesday afternoon.
Department spokespeople called the death an “isolated incident.”
They stated there is no ongoing threat to the general public or other hotel guests.
As of Thursday, the identity of the woman has not been released.
Authorities have not confirmed if the victim was a guest at the hotel or a visitor.
No suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the case.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause of death.
Recent History
Elk Grove Village is generally known as a quiet, industrial-hub suburb near O’Hare Airport.
However, extended-stay hotels in the area have seen an uptick in police calls over the last two years.
In late 2024, local officials debated new safety ordinances for lodging facilities following several drug-related incidents.
Neighbors have previously expressed concerns about the lack of security cameras in parking lots along the Higgins Road corridor.
The Landmeier Road area is a frequent stop for travelers needing long-term housing, making it a high-traffic zone.
This latest discovery marks the second suspicious death investigation in the immediate O’Hare suburban area this month.
Police continue to ask anyone with information or dashcam footage from Wednesday morning to come forward.
Every piece of evidence is being analyzed to determine how the woman ended up outside the hotel.
