A 38-year-old Chicago woman faces multiple charges after Cook County Sheriff’s officers found a loaded handgun during a late-night traffic stop in River North.
The incident occurred around 11:25 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 4. Officers with the Community Safety Team pulled over a white Dodge Challenger in the 700 block of North Orleans Street after noticing the vehicle had a suspended registration.
As officers approached the car, they reportedly saw an open bottle of vodka being thrown out of the window.
The driver, identified as Ronda Richardson, was the only person in the vehicle.
Because the car was being towed for the suspended registration and the open alcohol container, officers conducted a search of the interior.
During the search, they recovered a loaded firearm.
Police confirmed that Richardson did not possess a Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card or a concealed carry license.
Richardson was taken into custody and charged with:
-
Unlawful possession of a weapon (misdemeanor)
-
Possession of ammunition without a FOID (misdemeanor)
-
Transporting an open container of alcohol
-
Operating a vehicle with suspended registration
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
