Nigerian music superstar Wizkid has come under intense scrutiny after a series of old tweets containing inappropriate and suggestive remarks about underage girls resurfaced on social media. The tweets posted more than 15 years ago began circulating online over the weekend, prompting widespread criticism and calls for accountability.
In the now-deleted posts, the Grammy-winning singer made troubling comments about a 14-year-old girl, expressing admiration for her looks while implying he was willing to overlook her age. One of the resurfaced tweets read:
“Damn!!!… dis girl is to00000000000 cuteeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!… bt she’s 14.. crying… she looks 19! crying.”
Another tweet revealed him commenting on the presence of young girls at a show, writing:
“Show was funnn!!!!… d cute 14 yr old babe was jst screaming.. ahn ahn.. plenty small girls jst dey shout.. kai!!… lol. so girls like me? lol.”
In yet another post, he stated:
“Dis girl is too cute… I go bone age o… kai!!…”
The emergence of these tweets coincides with a broader wave of public backlash targeting problematic old posts from public figures. The conversation intensified recently after Paystack co-founder Ezra Olubi was suspended from the company following the discovery of disturbing tweets from his early Twitter years, tweets that sparked national outrage and triggered an investigation.
With Wizkid’s old posts now making the rounds, many social media users are demanding that the singer publicly address the tweets instead of quietly deleting them. Critics argue that deleting the posts without issuing a statement appears evasive, especially given the sensitive nature of the content.
Some fans have jumped to the singer’s defense, noting that the tweets were made during his teenage years, long before he achieved fame. However, others insist that regardless of his age at the time, the comments are inappropriate and deserve acknowledgement and an apology.
As the backlash grows, Wizkid has yet to issue any formal statement addressing the resurfaced tweets. The controversy has reopened conversations about celebrity accountability, digital footprints, and whether past online behaviour should impact the public image of stars in the present day.
For now, the public waits to see whether Wizkid will respond or allow the storm to blow over in silence.
