Afrobeats icon and Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, famously known as Wizkid, has once again etched his name in the global music history books, this time, becoming the first African artist to surpass an estimated 20 billion global audio on-demand streams.
According to renowned international music data monitoring platform ChartMasters, the landmark figure is the combined tally of audio streams from both Wizkid’s solo tracks and collaborative features. This monumental achievement further solidifies Wizkid’s position as not just a leader in Afrobeats, but also a formidable force in global music.
Wizkid’s most streamed track remains the global smash hit One Dance by Canadian superstar Drake, which features him and British singer Kyla. The song, which ruled charts worldwide in 2016, has amassed a staggering 3.628 billion streams on Spotify alone, and holds a coveted Guinness World Record as the first song to reach one billion streams on Spotify.
This is not Wizkid’s first major streaming accolade. He also holds the title of being the first African artist to receive the Brit Billion Award, a UK-based recognition for surpassing one billion audio on-demand streams in the United Kingdom.
With over 65 million units sold globally, Wizkid stands tall as the best-selling Afrobeats artist of all time. From his debut album Superstar to his critically acclaimed Made in Lagos, Big Wiz continues to break barriers, bridging African rhythms with mainstream pop and R&B across continents.
This latest feat is not just a personal victory, but a monumental leap for Afrobeats as a genre, highlighting its growing dominance on the world stage. Wizkid’s success story is a powerful reminder of how African music continues to shape the global sonic landscape.
