Nollywood actress Jemima Osunde has sparked conversations online after delivering a blunt message to women who believe their only ticket to a good life is marrying a rich man.
The award-winning actress, known for speaking her mind, took to her X handle to call out the growing trend of entitlement among some ladies who feel they deserve to live off a man’s wealth without lifting a finger.
She questioned why women with such a mindset spend their time fantasising about marrying billionaires instead of rolling up their sleeves to make their own money. According to Osunde, in today’s harsh economic climate, such expectations are not only impractical but outright delusional.
“’Work his ass off for money’. Wetin do your own ass? You don’t want to work? In this economy? It’s like some of you think we’re still living in Bible times. My good sis, there’s not enough billionaires in the world for all of us to be housewives. You better go and look for work,” she wrote.
Her no-holds-barred statement quickly went viral, striking a chord with many women who agreed that the culture of entitlement was becoming toxic. Others applauded her for encouraging young women to embrace financial independence rather than waiting for a “moneybag saviour.”
Osunde went further to note that while there’s nothing wrong with wanting comfort in marriage, making it a life plan without personal effort is a dangerous mindset. She urged ladies to channel their energy into productive ventures, entrepreneurship, and career growth, rather than daydreaming about a man funding their lifestyles.
The actress’s fiery take has since sparked debates on social media, with some users praising her honesty while others argued that “gold-digging” is a survival strategy in tough times. Regardless of where people stand, one thing is clear, Jemima Osunde is not here for lazy entitlement.
