Controversial activist and online personality, Verydarkman, has broken his silence following the release of a Nollywood film inspired by his life, expressing deep dissatisfaction with how the story was handled.
Earlier this week, social media went into a frenzy after a movie poster went viral, showing Nollywood veteran Gentle Jack portraying a character based on Verydarkman, popularly known by the acronym VDM. While many fans praised the casting choice, citing the resemblance between the two, the man at the center of the story was far from pleased.
Taking to his Instagram page, Verydarkman reacted to the trending film, stating that although he doesn’t mind his life being portrayed on screen, he strongly disapproves of the way it was done, especially since the filmmakers never reached out to hear his side of the story.
“I have a problem with it, to be very honest I’m not even happy with it… Baba Gentle Jack for write to me say, VDM what is your story, I want to play your story,” he said in part of his video response.
In a separate post, the activist didn’t hold back his emotions as he critiqued the quality and authenticity of the film.
“By now I am sure most of you have seen the movie NOLLYWOOD DID WHERE LEGENDARY GENTLE JACK PLAY ME (very dark man). Honestly I am not happy about the movie, it cr!nggd me. I was so irrrtdd even watching it. They got the right character and our look alike, however the story was just !rrrt@tnng,” he wrote.
Verydarkman’s comments have sparked mixed reactions across social media. While some fans agree that the activist should have been consulted to ensure an accurate depiction, others believe public figures should expect such portrayals once in the spotlight.
As the debate continues, one thing is clear, Verydarkman wants his story told on his own terms and he’s not afraid to speak out when it isn’t.
