Activist Verydarkman has narrated his unexpected private encounter with former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, following news of Musa’s nomination as Minister of Defence by President Bola Tinubu.
In a detailed video shared online, the activist recalled that he first came under the military’s radar after he publicly criticised General Musa’s reaction to the Yelwata massacre in Benue State.
According to him, the violent attack by suspected herdsmen on June 14, 2025, left numerous residents of Yelwata dead. He visited the community the following day, documenting the aftermath in a series of graphic videos that went viral and drew nationwide attention.
After General Musa addressed the incident on television, Verydarkman expressed dissatisfaction with his comments, criticising him openly. Two days later, he was informed that the Army was searching for him.
He recounted being taken to a military facility in Asokoro, where he unexpectedly came face-to-face with the then-CDS.
“When the door opened, I saw Christopher Musa—the same man I had blasted online,” he said.
According to Verydarkman, the General dismissed everyone else in the room and told him privately, “I need your help.”
He explained that Musa wanted detailed accounts of what he observed in Yelwata as well as any intelligence he had gathered. The activist said he had already been in contact with individuals familiar with the longstanding conflicts involving Fulani groups and had received sensitive video evidence from them.
He described Musa as a leader willing to seek truth and insight from any credible source, regardless of status.
“For a Chief of Defence Staff to call Verydarkman to his house and say ‘I need your help,’ it shows he was genuinely looking for solutions. There was no pride,” he said.
