Virgil Van Dijk has confirmed that contract talks with Liverpool are progressing well ahead of the last seven games of the Premier League season.
The Dutch defender’s contract is expected to run out at the end of the season, and a few months ago he revealed that there was no contract offer from Liverpool.
However, He has now confirmed that the contract talks are progressing well as Liverpool close in on their 20th Premier League title.
He said: “There is progress, yeah. I don’t know [if I’ll stay], we’ll see. Listen, these are internal discussions and we’ll see.
“I love the club, I love the fans and they were there for us again and we wanted to reward them.
“But I want them to be there on Sunday again [at home to West Ham United] and make the stadium an amazing venue like always for us.”
The trip of Virgil Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohammed Salah are all out of contract at the end of the season.
Alexander-Arnold is closing in on a move to Real Madrid, while Mohammed Salah’s future is unclear.
Van Dijk has been a key player for Liverpool since joining the club from Southampton in a £75m deal in 2018.
He played a key role in leading the team to the Champions League, Premier League, EFL Cup, and the FA Cup trophies.
He has scored 26 goals in 323 appearances for the Reds.
Van Dijk has been instrumental in Liverpool’s quest to win their 20th Premier League title this season with impressive performances, while also making 31 appearances in the competition this season.
