Popular Nigerian comedian and content creator, Sabinus, also known as Mr Funny, has issued a hilarious yet pointed rant online after fans repeatedly tagged him to participate in the trending “tag someone to give you ₦1 million” social media challenge.
The viral trend, which has taken over platforms like Instagram and TikTok, encourages users to tag wealthy or generous celebrities in hopes of securing a ₦1M cash gift. But Sabinus, known for his comedy skits where his characters often end up in comically unfortunate situations, made it clear that he is not the person to tag.
In a video post, Sabinus expressed disbelief at the audacity of fans who keep tagging him:
“I no really understand o, ‘tag somebody to give you N1M’ una go dey tag me, me Sabinus, like una dey forget? Why so quick. No be una dey here I dey post skit, e get anyone wey I succeed for the skit? All of them no be cry dey end am?”
He went on to urge fans to lower their expectations and remember the essence of his online persona. According to him, if they’ve been watching his skits closely, they should already know he’s not “that guy” when it comes to dishing out money.
Sabinus jokingly reminded everyone that he constantly plays the role of a struggling man in his skits, one who’s always either duped, broke, or caught in a ridiculous mess and thus shouldn’t be mistaken for a cash-doling celebrity.
In his words, instead of tagging him, fans should redirect their energy towards true “big men” like Obi Cubana and Cubana Chief Priest, who have the kind of financial clout such challenges require.
“Una suppose dey tag Obi Cubana, Cubana Chief Priest, na dem dey there. I dey manage. Na una suppose dey donate for me!” he added humorously.
The post has since sparked laughter and widespread reactions on social media, with fans and fellow celebrities praising Sabinus for keeping it real and funny.
