Two people are recovering after being stabbed late Monday night at a CTA Red Line station on Chicago’s South Side.
The attack happened around 10:53 p.m. at the 69th Street stop in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.
According to the Chicago Police, a 37-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man were involved in a verbal argument with another person on the platform.
The situation turned violent when the suspect pulled out a sharp object and attacked both victims.
Emergency responders transported both victims to the University of Chicago Medical Center:
-
The woman suffered a puncture wound to the chest.
-
The man sustained a puncture wound to the back.
Both were listed in fair condition as of Tuesday morning.
Investigation and CTA Safety Concerns
No suspects are currently in custody, and Area One detectives are investigating the incident.
This stabbing adds to growing concerns over safety on Chicago’s transit system.
The Federal Transit Authority (FTA) recently rejected the CTA’s initial safety plan, claiming it did not do enough to protect passengers.
The CTA is now under federal orders to submit a more rigorous safety strategy or risk losing crucial federal funding.
