Two men are dead after a violent shooting in Chicago’s Chatham neighborhood on Tuesday night.
The shooting happened around 11:21 p.m. in the 7800 block of South Calumet Avenue.
According to reports from ABC7 Chicago, the two victims were standing outside when the incident began.
A group of five male suspects approached the men on the sidewalk.
Chicago police stated that an encounter occurred between the two groups.
Gunfire broke out during the confrontation, striking both victims.
Authorities have not yet confirmed how many of the five suspects were armed.
It is also unclear how many of the suspects fired their weapons during the attack.
One victim, a 37-year-old man, suffered a gunshot wound to his chest.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
The second victim, a 44-year-old man, was shot multiple times.
Paramedics rushed him to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
Doctors later pronounced the 44-year-old man dead at the hospital.
After the shots were fired, the five suspects fled the area on foot.
Witnesses told police the group ran south toward 79th Street.
As of Wednesday morning, no one is in custody for the double homicide.
Area Two detectives are currently leading the investigation into the motive behind the shooting.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
The identities of the two victims have not yet been released to the public.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation by the Chicago Police Department.
