The Nigerian entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following the reported passing of popular brand influencer, Nollywood actress and body positivity advocate, Monalisa Stephen.
According to Seun Oloketuyi, the CEO of Best of Nollywood (BON), Monalisa Stephen tragically passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, in Lagos, after a prolonged battle with low blood sugar and internal bleeding.
The heartbreaking announcement was made public on Wednesday, May 14, via a Facebook post shared by Oloketuyi, who stated that the news was confirmed by the actress’s immediate younger sister.
“Brand influencer Monalisa Ayobami Stephen is dead, she died yesterday in Lagos after losing the fight against Low sugar and internal bleeding. Her immediate younger sister confirmed the death of this hardworking and beautiful soul,” his post read.
Monalisa Stephen was widely known for her vocal advocacy around body positivity, mental health awareness, and self-love. She built a loyal fan base through her social media presence, using her platform to challenge societal stereotypes and promote confidence among plus-sized women.
Over the years, she inspired many with her boldness, her honesty about personal struggles including past mental health battles and her unapologetic personality.
