Nigeria is a country of many ethnic groups and each of these ethnic groups covers numerous numbers of villages. In these communities, people are normally ruled by kings or chiefs.

Many of Nigeria’s kings are considered very wealthy, with fortunes derived from both their kingdom and other businesses. This article provides information on some of these kings in Nigeria and their estimated wealth.

1. Osi Akinruntan – $300 million

Oba Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan, the Olugbo of Ugbo in Ondo state Nigeria tops the list with a calculated net worth of $ 300 million making him one of the richest kings in Nigeria. Originally an oil tycoon and the owner of Obat Oil Limited, Akinruntan’s source of income can be estimated based on over fifty fuel stations and one of the biggest tank farms in Africa.

The luxurious items belonging to him include; a Bentley Mulsanne from 2014 and a Rolls-Royce from 2012.

2. Sa’adu Abubakar, Sultan of Sokoto – $100 Million

The richest first-class king of the Muslim North, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’adu Abubakar controls an evaluated wealth of about $100 million. He became the 20th Sultan following the death of his brother, Muhammadu Maccido.

In his military career, Abubakar has been a presidential security unit leader and a peacekeeping commander. He has a Rolls-Royce from the year 2017 among other luxury assets.

3. Lamido Sanusi Lamido – Former Emir of Kano – $80 Million

The former Emir of Kano and ex-Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria – Lamido Sanusi Lamido has an estimated worth of $80 million. While Sanusi was dethroned in 2020, he is still able to make statements and has a yearly stipend provided by the Nigerian government. He owns two Rolls-Royce among other luxury.

4. Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Enitan, Ooni of Ife – $70 Million

Another Nigerian king, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Enitan, The Ooni of Ife has a net worth of $70 million. Ogunwusi came to the throne in 2015, the businessman had constructed housing units and had established a first-class resort in Lagos.

Other luxurious automobiles that he has are a Rolls-Royce Phantom 2011 model, two Bentley models, and a Mercedes S550 model.

5. Oba Ewuare II Ogidigan – Oba of Benin – $65 Million

Since his ascension to the throne in 2016, the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II Ogidigan, has a record net worth of $65 million. He had a long career before becoming the Oba; he was with the United Nations and was Nigeria’s ambassador to several countries.

His popular car is a 2016 Rolls-Royce Phantom which costs ₦150 million.

6. Nnaemeka Alfred Ugochukwu – Obi of Onitsha – $60 Million

21st Obi of Onitsha, His Royal Majesty Nnaemeka Alfred Ugochukwu, is worth an estimated $60million. He is also the chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University and has also served as the chancellor at Kogi State University. He also owns a fleet of luxurious vehicles such as the 2016 Rolls Royce.

7. Olu of Warri – $10 Million

The Olu of Warri, Utieyinoritsetsola Emiko, then was enthroned in August 2021. He is among the youngest at 37 but has made a good fortune of $10 million. The attention has been drawn to him because of his royal ancestry and relatively recent crowning.

A classic example of the assets include a black Rolls-Royce Phantom and Bentley Continental among other properties.

8. Rilwan Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu – Oba of Lagos – $9 Million

Aremu Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos is estimated to be worth $9 million making him one of the richest kings in Nigeria. King Mohammed VI of Morocco was an Assistant Inspector General of Police before he became king in the year 2003. One of his notable cars is a 2016 Mercedes Benz S550.

9. Benjamin Ikenchuku Keagborekuzi I – Dein of Agbor – $8 Million

The Dein of Agbor, Benjamin Ikenchuku Keagborekuzi I, is arguably the youngest and possibly the least wealthy on this list with $8 million. He has been reigning as a young king ever since his father died.

He has a 2015 Mercedes-Benz S550 Maybach to his name.

10. Alhaji Ado Bayero – Emir of Kano – $7 Million

Alhaji Ado Bayero who was the Emir of Kano until his death in the year 2014 is still one of the most prominent Nigerian royalties. The deceased was estimated to have a net worth of $ 7 million at the time of his death.

His academic achievements were also noteworthy whereby Bayero authored many books which showed his numerous contributions to the enhancement of culture and the economy of Kano.

The amount of wealth shown by these Nigerian kings is quite diverse and ranges from traditional sources of authority to present-day business activities. They perform unique responsibilities not only in society but also in Nigeria’s overall economic and social systems.
