A 32-year-old mother of five remains in a medically induced coma after being shot in the head during a suspected road rage incident Thursday morning in Chicago’s Brighton Park neighborhood.

The shooting occurred in the 2400 block of West 47th Street.

Passenger Struck in Head During Attack
According to Chicago police, the victim, identified by family as Rosa Hernandez Rivera, was a passenger in a vehicle when a gray sedan pulled alongside.

An unknown gunman inside the gray sedan opened fire into the car, striking Rivera in the head.

Paramedics transported Rivera to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
Her sister confirmed she remains there in a medically induced coma, according to CBS News.

Shooter Fled Southbound on Western Avenue
Police reported the shooter fled the scene southbound on Western Avenue immediately following the gunfire.

No suspects were in custody as of Monday, and Area One detectives continue to investigate the incident.
Rivera’s family continues to hold vigil at the hospital, asking for the community’s support and prayers.

Surveillance Video Shows Vehicle Tailing Victim Before Gunfire
Surveillance video obtained from a nearby shipping store appears to show the victim’s vehicle being closely followed just seconds before shots were fired.
Fifteenth Ward Alderman Raymond Lopez noted the dispute may have escalated across multiple city blocks prior to the shooting.
“This may actually have gone on for several blocks, ultimately culminating with the woman being shot,” Lopez said.

Investigators noted a car seat was visible inside the vehicle, confirming two children were present during the shooting but escaped physical injury.
“There could have been other victims,” Lopez said. “That bullet could have went through the window and hit someone waiting for a bus.”

Local authorities confirmed the incident does not appear to be gang-related.
“The history of the victim doesn’t seem to imply that there’s anything that should be raising any alarms or red flags to us,” Lopez added.
