Veteran Nollywood actress Ireti Doyle has opened up about her long break from social media, revealing that the online space has become increasingly toxic and unsafe for her peace of mind.
The 58-year-old screen icon, who recently made a rare appearance on Instagram after months of silence, shared an introspective post explaining why she chose to retreat from the spotlight.
In her words:
“I used to wonder what I’d do with myself once I became an ‘empty nester’… now I know. Had to disappear again. The streets of social media (nay, the world in general) is becoming too toxic for my quiet soul. How have you been? I hope you’re protecting yourself?”
Her heartfelt message struck a chord with fans, many of whom resonated with her sentiments about the growing negativity that often dominates social media platforms.
Ireti Doyle first captured public attention as a television producer and presenter, creating and hosting the popular fashion and lifestyle show Oge with Iretiola for ten years. She also presented several programmes, including Morning Ride on STV, where she became known for her poise and eloquence.
Over the years, Doyle has bagged numerous awards, including the Best Supporting Actress trophy at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), solidifying her place as one of Nollywood’s most respected talents.
Beyond her screen success, Ireti Doyle has been open about her personal evolution. She was previously married to broadcaster Patrick Doyle, a marriage that ended in divorce after several years.
Her latest revelation reflects a growing sentiment among public figures who are choosing to step back from social media for the sake of mental and emotional balance.
With her graceful comeback post, Ireti Doyle reminds fans that sometimes, silence and solitude are the best forms of self-preservation in a noisy digital world.
