Tiwa Savage Opens Up on Rift With Davido, Police Report, and Why She Did What She Did [VIDEO]

Afrobeats queen Tiwa Savage has finally broken her silence on her fallout with Davido, shedding light on the much-talked-about police report she filed against the superstar earlier this year.

In April, Davido granted an interview on The Breakfast Club where he addressed his strained relationship with Tiwa, describing her as a “big sister” and insisting there was no bad blood between them. However, Tiwa has now spoken out in her own words during a recent sit-down with the same U.S radio station.

According to the singer, the fallout was the result of a “miscommunication” tied to Davido’s custody battle with his first baby mama, Sophia Momodu.

“We have not seen or spoken since then. I want to say it was a miscommunication. There hasn’t been any kind of communication between us. I was hurt by the way it transpired. Our kids are friends and they have gone to the same school since they were one, they are 10 now,” Tiwa explained.

She recalled being at an event where Sophia was also present. The two women interacted casually, but Davido allegedly interpreted their closeness as a form of disloyalty.

“I was at an event and she was too, so naturally I was like ‘hey, how are you?’ We were partying, drinking, doing snap and whatever. So, he saw that and took it as trolling him. And I was what? How? What’s going on? That’s why I said I think it was a miscommunication and misunderstanding,” she clarified.

Tiwa maintained that she never knew Davido and Sophia were having issues at the time. And even if she did, she said it would not have influenced her.

“And even if I knew, I wouldn’t have taken sides. Because our kids are friends, and it’s not my business to pick sides. He felt like I should have been loyal to him,” she added.

On why she filed a police report against Davido after reports of threats surfaced, Tiwa said it was more of a precautionary move than an act of fear.

“I think out of anger, maybe he might have made threats but do I think he was really gonna go ahead with it? No. But, again I’m not taking any risks. Before I did that, I reached out to members of his family… None of them came back to me. In fact, one of them said I should do what I need to do,” Tiwa revealed.

Despite the tension, the “Somebody’s Son” hitmaker insists there’s no animosity on her part. She expressed her love for Davido, describing him as family.

“David is just a joyful person, he doesn’t mean it. And I feel like he is like a brother to me and that’s why it hurts. We haven’t seen each other and I’m sure it’s gonna be all love, it’s definitely all love from me.

I want him to know, I haven’t spoken to you David but I do want you to know, I do love you and I will never betray you or take sides. I want you to know I’m always putting our kids first,” she concluded.

With both stars publicly sharing their sides of the story, fans are hopeful the once-tight bond between Tiwa Savage and Davido can be restored.
