Global Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has set social media ablaze after making a controversial remark about the widely accepted “Big 3” of Afrobeats: Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido.
The singer, who is often referred to as the Queen of Afrobeats, voiced her frustration during her recent headline concert in London, England.
Midway into her electrifying performance, Savage paused to address the audience before making a statement that immediately sent shockwaves across the Afrobeats community.
“I don’t want to say a lot of things because I will be trending by tomorrow. F**k the Top 3,” she declared, drawing both cheers and gasps from the crowd.
Her comments have been interpreted by many as a direct challenge to the male-dominated hierarchy of Afrobeats, where Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy are often celebrated as the genre’s leading figures.
Critics argue that the “Big 3” narrative overlooks the impact of female artistes, with Savage herself frequently excluded from such rankings despite her global success, sold-out shows, and trailblazing career.
Beyond her bold statement, Tiwa Savage added a heartwarming twist to the night by bringing her son, Jamil, on stage for the very first time. The emotional moment resonated deeply with fans, especially since she had previously revealed in an interview that she would not encourage him to pursue a music career.
The London concert has since gone viral online, with clips of her declaration stirring passionate debates about gender dynamics, recognition, and inclusion in the Afrobeats industry.
While some fans praised her for speaking out against a system they view as misogynistic, others felt her comment was unnecessarily provocative.
