A heartwarming Chicago story that captured the world’s attention is heading to the big screen.
Netflix has officially greenlit “Tis So Sweet,” a feature film based on the incredible true story of a South Shore bakery owner who discovered her long-lost son was her favorite regular customer.
From Bakery Customers to Family
The story follows Lenore Lindsey, owner of the “Give Me Some Sugah” bakery, and Vamarr Hunter.
For years, Hunter frequented the shop for sweets and conversation, never knowing he was speaking to his biological mother.
After Hunter used a DNA test to find his birth parents, he received the shock of a lifetime: the woman who owned his favorite bakery was the mother he had been searching for.
Their reunion went viral in late 2024 after being featured on NBC Chicago.
A Star-Studded Cast
Movie mogul Tyler Perry is producing the film as part of his creative partnership with Netflix. The production features an A-list ensemble:

Production Details
Filming recently wrapped on-site in Chicago and is continuing at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.
The movie is directed by Tasha Smith and written by Randy Brown, the writer behind Miracles from Heaven.
Lindsey and Hunter, who visited the set in Chicago, expressed their excitement about the portrayal of their lives. “Joey captured V perfectly,” Lindsey said.
When Can You Watch It?
Netflix aims to release Tis So Sweet during the holiday season of 2026 (Thanksgiving or Christmas).
In addition to the film, the family confirmed that a book detailing their journey of forgiveness and discovery is also in development.
