A popular Bridgeview restaurant faces months of repairs after a frozen pipe burst early Wednesday morning, sending nearly a foot of water into the dining room.
Firefighters arrived at The View, a family restaurant in the southwest suburbs, just before 2 a.m. to find the building flooded.
When crews opened the doors, water rushed out into the parking lot.
While firefighters eventually drained the flood, the interior sustained significant damage.
Co-owner Naseim Baste explained that the recent stretch of extreme cold caused the restaurant’s pipes and sprinkler lines to freeze.
The disaster struck when temperatures began to rise.
“Once it warmed up, they blew up and created a full flood of water,” Baste said.
The damage to the dining area and infrastructure is extensive.
The owners estimate it will take at least two months to complete repairs and pass inspections before the restaurant can welcome customers back.
Currently, there is no official date for a grand reopening.
