An 18-year-old man faces multiple felony charges after slamming a stolen car into a Chicago Police squad car early Monday morning, seriously injuring two officers.
Police identified the driver as Orlando Matos III, of the 1100 block of North Lawndale Avenue.
The violent collision occurred around 2:56 a.m. in the Lakeview neighborhood, just blocks from Wrigley Field.
According to investigators, Matos was driving a stolen Hyundai Elantra southbound on Racine Avenue when he blew through a stop sign.
He struck a marked CPD squad car with such force that the cruiser was shoved into a tree.
The stolen Hyundai then careened into three other parked cars before coming to a stop.
The two officers in the squad car were rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
Matos was also hospitalized in critical condition before being taken into police custody.
Matos now faces a long list of charges, including:

Two felony counts of Aggravated Reckless Driving causing bodily harm.

One felony count of Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.

Five Citations, including driving without a license, no insurance, and failure to stop.
Matos is scheduled for a detention hearing today, December 30, 2025, at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California.
