Lagos State athletes made a strong start at the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, winning multiple medals across swimming, gymnastics, and football.
The standout performance came from the swimming team, who secured seven gold medals and one silver on the opening day.
In the girls’ events, Lagos swimmers claimed victories in the 100m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly, 50m Backstroke, and 4×100m Medley Relay.
The boys’ team added three gold medals in the 200m Individual Medley, 100m Backstroke, and 4×100m Freestyle Relay, plus a silver in the 50m Freestyle, bringing their total to eight medals.
The success continued in gymnastics, where Lagos athletes earned four medals in the Boys’ Artistic Event: one gold, one silver, and two bronze.
In football, both the male and female teams defeated the host state, Delta, with scores of 1-0 and 2-0, respectively.
