The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped from the fifth position to the sixth position following their poor performance against Zimbabwe in the World Cup qualifiers in March.
The Super Eagles under new coach, Eric Chelle played two World Cup qualifiers in the March international window.
Victor Osimhen scored a brace to lead the team to a 2-0 win over Rwanda in Kigali, while the second match ended in a disappointing 1-1 draw at home in Uyo.
In the FIFA rankings released on Thursday, The Super Eagles dropped down to sixth after occupying the fifth position in December.
For the first time in six months, the team has fallen outside of the top five African teams in the world rankings.
The Super Eagles started 2024 in the 28th position but due to inconsistent performances they crashed to the 44th position in the world rankings in December, their lowest ranking since 2018.
The team played 15 matches in 2024, winning nine, drawing four, and losing five.
However, they have moved up a place to the 43rd position in the latest rankings.
In Africa, Morocco held on to the top position, while moving up to the 12th position in the world.
Senegal (19th ), Egypt (32nd ), Algeria (36th ), and Cote d’Ivoire (41st ) completed Africa’s top five.
Argentina maintained their position as the world’s number one team while Spain climbed above France to claim the second position.
England, Brazil, Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, and Germany completed the top 10.
The Super Eagles will be back in action in the Unity Cup in May before taking on Russia in an international friendly match in June.
The next FIFA World rankings will be released on July 10th.
