Nigerian singer John Njenga-Njeng, popularly known as Skales, has firmly denied reports circulating online that he divorced his wife, Precious Hassanity, for allegedly mocking his music career on social media.
The viral claim, which began making rounds after an X user with the handle @Verity_HQ shared an alleged quote from the singer, suggested that Skales ended his marriage after Precious made a disparaging comment on his post, aligning herself with online trolls.
The user alleged that Skales said:
“I d!vorced my wife because of a comment she made on my post and I don’t rêgret it,” singer Skales reportedly said. “When my wife made the comment on my post, I got ãngry. People cannot be m0cking your husband’s music career, the music that is paying your bills and you join them to m0ck him.
She should’ve defended me or, better still, stayed quiet. I wasn’t totally wr0ng for dîvorcing her because a woman who doesn’t support your hustle isn’t a good wife.”
Reacting swiftly, Skales took to social media to debunk the report, slamming it as completely fabricated and “false.” The artist expressed outrage at the blogger’s decision to spread such misinformation, calling it “evil” and “unfair.”
In his own words, Skales wrote:
“This is really evil of you that you would cook up such a story. This is not fair. I have never made such a statement and this is false. Please stop spreading lies.”
The singer’s response comes amid an already complicated history with his wife. Skales, who tied the knot with Precious, known to be a chef in September 2021, had previously stirred controversy when he previewed what appeared to be a diss track in November 2022, seemingly targeting her.
In the emotionally charged track, Skales used unprintable words and indirectly accused his wife of neglecting his late mother, Martina Aiyewa, claiming she could have saved her but didn’t. His grief and frustration were further echoed in a social media post at the time:
“In all you do, make sure you don’t marry a heartless person. Pray for my mental health.”
The cryptic messages and song lyrics fueled speculation about troubles in their marriage, though Skales never officially confirmed a separation until now, when he’s been forced to respond to fresh rumors.
With the singer denying the latest viral quote, the controversy surrounding his personal life continues to draw public attention, even as fans hope for clarity and healing in his private affairs.
